Paper Trails ("we") is a daily puzzle game on papertrails.gg and in the Paper Trails iPhone app. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to delete it. We don't sell your data and the app shows no ads.
What we collect
- Account details (only if you sign in): your email address from Google, Apple or an email sign-in link, the username you choose, and an account ID. You can play without an account.
- Game data: the puzzles you play, your clicks, the path you took and your time. In multiplayer rooms and challenges we also store the display name you enter and your result.
- Usage analytics: pages viewed and game events (for example "puzzle completed"), device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We use Google Analytics, Mixpanel and Vercel Web Analytics for this. If you're signed in, Mixpanel links these events to your account and email.
- On your device only: your stats, streak and preferences are kept in local storage. Daily reminders in the app are scheduled on your phone; we don't run a push-notification server.
How we use it
- To run the game: sign-in, leaderboards, streaks, challenges and multiplayer rooms.
- To understand how the game is used and make it better.
- On the website only, to measure how our ads perform (Google Ads). The app doesn't do this and doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
What's public
Your username, avatar and results appear on leaderboards, and your display name appears in rooms and challenges you join.
Who processes it
- Supabase: database and sign-in.
- Vercel: website hosting and web analytics.
- Google: Sign in with Google, Google Analytics, and Google Ads on the website.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple.
- Mixpanel: product analytics.
- Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation): articles are loaded from Wikipedia, so your device connects to Wikimedia's servers under their privacy policy.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the game: open your profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, username, scores and stats. You can also email us and we'll do it for you. Analytics providers keep event data according to their own retention settings.
Children
Paper Trails isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you think a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date at the top.
